Finding Her Passion at the Bottom of the Ocean

In 2004 Sara Cambell working as a PR executive in England. Disillusioned with her hectic lifestyle she decided to take a holiday to the Egyptian resort town of Dehab, a decision would alter her life forever.

Leaving the comfort of her home town was not an easy decision but Sara knew that this was her shot at pursuing her dream of setting up a yoga holiday business and it was at her yoga studio where her true passion was accidently discovered.

Life was extremely fast-paced, and although I thrive on a challenge I discovered my job just wasn’t making me happy any more. A few people had told me about a lovely Egyptian town called Dahab with a great quality of life, and I booked myself a well-deserved break. I fell in love with the place. People said hello in the streets and there was such a sense of community. When I got back to the hussle and bustle of London, where no-one makes eye contact, I decided to make the break.

Dehad is known as one of the best scuba diving spots in the world and it was a couple of diving enthusiasts who first noticed that Sara was very good at holding her breath. They suggested he give the relatively unknown sport of free diving a try. Free diving is the sport of diving below the surface of the ocean without the use of any breathing apparatus. Free drivers are typically able to hold their breath for up to 3 minutes and can reach a depth of 300 feet.

To say that Sara Cambell took to the sport of free diving like a fish to water would be an huge understatement, and yes a very bad pun. In her first competitive dive she set a new British women’s free diving record in constant weight no fins. Then in 2007 she surprised everyone in the community by breaking three world records in only 48 hours.

Had she never taken that vacation, never moved to Dehab, Sara Cambell would have never discovered her unique skill. When asked about it she cracks a big smile and says:

It was a bit of a long shot, but has worked out brilliantly.
